Proficiency Swims

Coogee Minnows is not a swim school. Instead it develops surf skills and confidence in children around an aquatic environment.

2017-18 Season Proficiency

All Minnows from U8 through to U14 have compulsory proficiency swims, ranging from 25M to 300M.

The ONLY proficiency opportunities for the 2017/18 season are:

Proficiency Swim Dates:

  • Sunday September 3rd and Sunday September 10th, 2017
    Between midday and 2.00pm

Proficiency Swim Location:

  • UNSW Sport and Recreation Centre
    High St  Kensington

In order to participate in ALL activities on the beach, individuals must achieve a minimum proficiency level.

This minimum requirement is established by Surf Lifesaving Australia, however Coogee Minnows establishes its own minimum proficienciy which is above and beyond those set by SLSA. This basic requirements at Coogee is known as a Preliminary Evaluation. This is the proficiency evaluation that will take place on registration days.

At the two proficiency days, juniors will be encouraged to undergo preliminary evaluation to participate in ANY activity on the beach. Each boy and girl will be timed and nippers that want to compete will have to complete the Competition Evaluation in first few weeks on the beach. This is a change from previous seasons where competition evaluations could be done in the pool
